Options:

1. Cash
Cash gifts provide funds for student scholarships, projects and activities as well as future efforts. These gifts usually offer the greatest immediate tax savings.
Gifts can be made as a memorial or as a tribute to an individual. Acknowledgement is sent to the recipient or family on your behalf. Amount of donations is kept confidential.

2. Securities
Securities can be one of the most advantageous ways to make a gift. The value of the donation for tax purposes will be determined on the date of the transfer to the DCTC Foundation. You avoid federal capital gains tax that would otherwise be due on the sale of the assets.

3. Gifts Made Through Your Will
A bequest in your will naming the DCTC Foundation as a recipient of a portion of your estate may produce sizeable savings to heirs in income and estate taxes.

4. Endowment
You can contribute to either one of the currently existing endowments:

  • Administrative and Medical Office Careers Endowment
  • Bara Arens Endowment
  • Carl Eastvold Endowment
  • Dakota County Technical College Endowment
  • David Lindberg Memorial Endowment
  • Health Care Endowment
  • Lester Daluge Memorial Endowment
  • Ziegler Endowment

You may also establish a named endowment of your own. A gift of $10,000 will establish an endowment in your name or another name you select.

5. Insurance
Life Insurance is a potential gift. For a policy that is paid up, your charitable contribution is the cash value of the policy. Other policies can be given while you continue to pay the premiums, resulting in income tax deductions when the DCTC Foundation is named both owner and fiduciary. Also, a new policy on your life naming DCTC Foundation as beneficiary guarantees a future gift as well.

6. Real Estate and Personal Property
Tangible personal property such as art, books, and equipment related to the mission of Dakota County Technical College are tax deductible (at fair market value). Consider donating property- before you sell it - to the DCTC Foundation. You'll avoid capital gains tax and realize a charitable deduction for the full fair market value.

7. Corporate Matching Gift
More than 1000 parent companies and corporate foundations in the US currently match employee gifts to nonprofit organizations such as the DCTC Foundation. Under corporate matching gift programs, gifts made by a company's eligible employee to the nonprofit organization meeting the company's guidelines are matched with company or corporate funds.

Usually, to initiate a matching gift, a donor completes the company's matching gift form and sends it to the DCTC Foundation along with the donation. Matching gift forms can be obtained from the company personnel office.
