Course Advising & Registration Session (CARs)

The Course Advising & Registration session, commonly known as CARs, specifically benefits students who have completed the admissions process and have been accepted into a program or major at Dakota County Technical College.

You need your Student ID number to log in and reserve a place in CARs from a list of scheduled sessions. Please, reserve the earliest possible session as soon as you receive your acceptance letter.

Courses fill up on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserving your CARs promptly gives you a better chance of enrolling in the courses you desire.

  • You will NOT be allowed to attend CARs without a reservation.

FAQs

Is CARs required?
  • YES. All students who have completed the admissions process and have been accepted into a program or major at DCTC must attend CARs. By failing to attend, you risk losing your place in your chosen program or major.
What goes on at CARs?
  • Advisors explain course schedules, tuition deadlines, adding and dropping classes, and other important enrollment information.
  • Advisors also work one-on-one with students to help them design their course schedules.
  • CARs wraps up with students completing the Online Course Registration process. Students leave CARs with a printed copy of their course schedule.
How long does a session last?
  • Sixty to 90 minutes.
What if I cannot attend any of the listed CARs?
Can I reserve more than one CARs?
  • NO. Only one CARs can be selected at a given time..
Can I change my CARs reservation?
  • YES. Follow the same procedure you used to reserve your initial session.
Is there a limit on the number of students allowed to attend each CARs?
  • YES. Forty to 60 students attend a typical session. Numbers are based on the number of available advisors.
Can I attend a session without a reservation?
  • Absolutely not.
Will I receive a confirmation and a reminder of my CARs?
  • YES. You will receive confirmation on the date and time of your session after making your reservation. You will get the chance to decide how you'll receive a follow-up confirmation seven days before your session.
What if I enter my Student ID number and my last name and nothing happens?
  • Make sure that you entered your Student ID number correctly. Make sure that you entered your last name exactly as it's listed on the letter that came with your CARs information.
