Andy Chernisky – President
My name is Andrew Chernisky and I am a Photography and Photographic Imaging Technology student attending Dakota County Technical College. When I look down the photography path, I see things blocking my dream. I see it going in and out of focus, like a camera lens. To make crisp the perfect shot, I have found that I need goals so to make my lens clear. My first goal is to take all the photography classes offered at Dakota County Technical College. My second goal is to get hired as a photographer.
I have a strong sense of community from different things I have done in my life. A few ways I have a strong sense of community are, I am an Eagle Scout and an honor student who graduated from Hastings High School. In High School I was a co-captain of Ignite Student Volunteers doing fundraising for various organizations such as the National Cancer Society, Haiti Relief Fund, and the One Foundation. I currently am helping with my church at Angel Food Ministry and am taking pictures for various non-profit groups within my church and home town. I am also on the Student Senate as the Student Senate President at Dakota County Technical College. I believe that you need to get involved in your community if you are going to make changes. My plan is to make changes in the world one photograph at a time.
My dream of being a photographer came from a seed that was planted by my father when I was seven years old about seeing the world thru a camera lens. As I grew up I saw thru the lens that one shot can have a huge impact and possibly change the world. I want to capture the world in pictures. I know that pictures say a thousand words and reflect a thousand thoughts. I have a dream, a dream of being a Photographer. I look forward to working towards reaching my goal in any way.
Stephanie Serres – Vice President
Hello! My name is Stephanie Serres, a second year photography student and your Student Senate Vice President. It was just last year, fall 2010, that I started at DCTC. Never did I think I would be taking on such a role as Vice President in the Student Senate, or become a senator for that matter! But as soon as I sat down at my first senate meeting I knew this was the place for me – a place to learn, create friendships, and make a difference. I have grown and learned a lot in such a short time and hope to give back what DCTC has given to me.
Lina Bajiba – Treasurer
My name is Lina Bajiba and I am the Student Senate Treasurer. I am majoring in Accounting and am expected to graduate in spring 2012. I have also been involved with the MSLA (Multicultural Student Leadership Association and the BPA (Business Professionals of America) club. It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to represent DCTC students and to be involved in Student Life at DCTC. I have learned so much and look forward to continue working with the school and the students. My goal is to continue to contribute in making positive changes that will allow our school and all the students achieve their goals.
Michael Doyle – Secretary
My name is Michael Doyle, and this is my first year in the Nanoscience Technology program. I decided to go to DCTC after I took a week long Nanoscience Course in the summer of 2010 that was offered to high school students. I liked the idea of getting a hands-on introduction to Nanoscience Technology at a technical college as opposed to a more theoretical approach. I graduated from Minnehaha Academy in June of 2011, which is where I've been since Pre-school. I took advantage of our state's Post-Secondary Enrollment Options at the University of Minnesota, and biked to both schools year round last year on an Electric Surly Pugsley that I assembled. I love art and design, and try to live a balanced life. As soon as I saw that DCTC had a student senate during the summer of 2010, I told myself that I would join it if I went to school here, and now I'm the Student Senate Secretary. I plan on using my Nanoscience A.A.S. as the foundation of my entrepreneurial career of researching and developing new technologies.
Ben Jackson – Campus Liaison
My name is Benjamin Jackson. I graduated Eastveiw in the class of 2008. I am currently attending DCTC for the landscape horticulture program and I can say that it's a marvelous program here at DCTC. Leadership is very important to me. I am the president of the Horticulture Club and I decided it was time for us as a club to be represented in the senate. I was later appointed to be the Campus Liaison. I am also a student ambassador and I sit on the strategic planning committee. My favorite color would have to be brown; it hides most dirt and mud. Thanks for reading about me and, have a nice day.
