Landscape Horticulture

Student Testimonials

Carlton, Zack

I chose to go to DCTC for their Landscape/Horticulture program because that is the place for a solid foundation in Minnesota landscape practices. The academic program is very technically oriented, and really gave me a great start as I began a career as a Landscape Designer. The instructors at DCTC are the best I have seen. Their teachings are based on real world experience, and not what they learn from books or videos. The Landscape Horticulture program's close relationship with the MNLA gave me great insight about the industry I was training for. The MNLA's certification exam was a great way for me to test all I learned while in the program, and passing it is a great professional achievement.

The program also attends PLANET Student Career Days every spring. I had the opportunity to attend the event held in Atlanta GA in the spring of 2008 where I finished 8th out of 860 competitors nationwide. This event was easily the best memory I have of any school related activity and know I never would have done as well as I did were not for DCTC's great technical focus and its instructors.

After completing my A.A.S degree at DCTC I decided to continue on to the University of Minnesota where I was accepted into the Master's of Landscape Architecture program. Most of the classes I took transferred to the University and I feel as though I have a jump start in my career/education thanks to DCTC. The technical education I received at DCTC is irreplaceable, and I would not change a thing about my academic progression.
