Admission Process

Admission and acceptance to the college and our programs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must complete all of the admissions requirements explained below before an admissions decision is made. Click on any of the items below for more detailed information.

1. Attend a Tuesday Campus Admission Visit (12:45-2:30 p.m.) for program tours and admissions information.

Campus visits are held every Tuesday afternoon at our Rosemount campus. The visit gives those who are exploring options and those beginning the application process the opportunity to gather information on the college, the admissions requirements, the career programs and tour the classrooms, labs and shops. Visitors are asked to check in by 12:45 p.m. The visit concludes around 2:30 p.m. No reservations required.

For those unable to attend during the day, evening campus visits will be offered from 5:45-6:45 p.m. (with optional tours afterwards.) For dates of evening campus visits, call 651.423.8020 or see the Campus Visit.

For those unable to visit on Tuesdays, individual appointments can be made with an admissions advisor by calling 651.423.8302 or toll free 1.877.937.3282 ext. 8302. The visit requirement can be waived if requested.

2. Submit a completed Dakota County Technical College application form

Complete both sides of the form making sure you provide your major/program choice and your signature. Detach the form and either mail it, hand it in at Campus Visit, or drop it off in the Student Services Office.

3.Pay a $20 non-refundable application fee.

This one-time non-refundable fee, payable to DCTC, can be paid at any time during the admissions process but needs to be paid prior to acceptance into the college. To pay by credit card fill out the online application fee form.

 

4. Complete immunization form.

You can obtain the Immunization Form by completing one Online, by downloading the Printable Immunization Form , or picking one up at a Campus Visit or in Student Services.

5. Complete the ACCUPLACER Test

The ACCUPLACER (formerly known as CPT) is an assessment of college readiness in skill areas such as reading comprehension, sentence skills and math. The results of the test will provide advisors information needed for course recommendations and course placement. Both walk-in testing is available Monday through Friday and select Tuesday evening testing by appointment only. For more information click the Placement Test link.

6. Be a high school graduate or possess a GED.

You must be a high school graduate, possess a GED, or show ability to benefit by achieving qualifying scores on the ACCUPLACER Test. (Admission may be denied if this requirement is not met).

7. Submit transcripts

Those persons graduating from high school within the last five years must submit high school transcripts. GED recipients must provide a copy of the GED certificate. Official college transcripts are required from students with previous degrees or when transferring credits. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the previous college to DCTC or submitted in a sealed envelope.

    • State PSEO form (HS Counselor must sign)
    • Meet class rank or placement test/ACCUPLACER requirements
  • Practical Nursing

    • Copy of driving record
    • Criminal background check
    • DOT physical
