Placement Test

DCTC is committed to supporting student success. As part of this commitment, the college has established a process to assess the college readiness of new students. The assessment tool we use for students pursuing a program of study and/or are seeking to take certain courses is called ACCUPLACER (formerly known as CPT).

The ACCUPLACER is a standardized assessment of your reading, sentence, and arithmetic skills. The test results are helpful when you are selecting your courses and assist us in developing plans for your academic support. RESULTS OF THE TEST DO NOT AFFECT ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE (unless you are without a High School Diploma or GED).

Retest Policy

Note: As of September 1, 2005, DCTC has adopted the following policy on retesting on all or parts of the ACCUPLACER Test. If a student chooses to retest on all or part of the ACCUPLACER, he/she will be allowed one retest per semester. The retest has to be scheduled at least two weeks after the initial test. The student who is retesting must pay a $5.00 fee at the Tuition Office before the retest would be administered. Please note: Students with documented disabilities and accommodations should advise the Test Administrator or the Disabilities Services Coordinator prior to taking the test the first time.
