Multicultural Supervision

Major Description

The Multicultural Supervisory Diploma is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in today's multicultural business environment. Skills learned are universal and can be applied to business entrepreneurship or any type of organization, including manufacturing, event hospitality, retail, health services and other profit and non-profit organizations. Build on the multicultural Supervision Certificate by individualizing the diploma based on your career goals. Select an emphasis area by choosing from one of the following certificates: Business Entrepreneur, Human Resources, Quality Improvement, Meeting and Event Management, or Supervisory Leadership.

Career Opportunities

The Multicultural Supervision Diploma provides training to help individuals perform successfully in multicultural organizations in the public, private, and non-profit sectors in positions such as team leader, supervisor, manager, entrepreneur or event and meeting manager.

Program Delivery

Students can begin this program Fall, Summer, or Spring semester. Evening, weekend and online course are offered. Full- or part-time starts are available. Courses in this program are offered at DCTC's Apple Valley site. The accelerated program is available in its entirety either online or in the classroom. Courses start each month.

Most courses are offered in a format that is highly interactive and at consistent times to accommodate working adults.

Students graduate in as little as one year by attending part-time, two nights a week, year round. Courses are sequenced to allow graduation for the certificate program in approximately eight months.

Advanced Standing

Previous college courses, certification, licensure, and training may be considered for credit in the major. The responsibility for seeking credit rests with the student and can be initiated by completing the course SMGT2950 Prior Experiential Learning Portfolio Development (1 elective credit).

After DCTC

DCTC has transfer agreements for this program with the following colleges: Southwest Minnesota State University, Cardinal Stritch, Bethel University, and Saint Mary's University. See Career Services for more information.

Student Outcomes
  1. Graduates of this program will be prepared for employment at a supervisory level.Students will demonstrate multicultural leadership skills to achieve a productive work environment.
  2. Students will demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills appropriate for today's diverse workplace.
  3. Students will demonstrate analytical skills in identifying and solving problems.
  4. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge and skills from their individualized emphasis areas.
  5. Students will demonstrate their overall understanding of the program through completion of the graduation project capstone.
