Generation Y Gets a Reality Check
Moderating expectations in the workplace
In his book, Not Everyone Gets a Trophy: How to Manage Generation Y, Bruce Tulgan discusses ways to successfully integrate "Echo Boomers" into the workplace. Also called Generation Next or the Millennial Generation, Generation Y features a membership generally born between 1978 and 1990.
While experts agree that Gen Y members are better acquainted with technology and are often closer to their parents than previous generations, research shows that they sometimes join a company or business with the idea that they are entitled to rewards more seasoned workers have dedicated years of service to earn.
I suspect that Millennials with this attitude will have trouble adapting to environments that do not award trophies simply for showing up. As managers, we need to focus their energy and skills for their own benefit and that of the organization. If that means providing an occasional reality check, then so be it.

The handshake…
Engage the full hand, palm to palm. Grip firmly to show that you're happy to be there – but don't crush or give a limp handshake. Look the other person in the eye and smile.
